Defense Department Launches New Website

Over the weekend the Defense Department debuted it’s new website to follow suit with the White House, State Department and other agencies adopting the Obama administration’s online brand and identity. You’ve got to applaud the effort to create an updated, more modern, coherent  look for our government agencies!

The new DoD website, like the other newly launched agency websites, places social media options front and center.   Right from the homepage, you can follow Tweets from Adm. Mike Mullen, Adm. James Stavridis and Gen. Carter Ham!

The new site is also more focused on the different constituencies the website serves. (Check out the two totally different layouts if you click on the upper right corner for “General Public” and “Defense Community“.)

The department still has some work to do in cleaning up its existing content to match the new layout and style, but overall it looks like a big improvement on both form and function.
